The SafeAssign service will be unavailable on Sunday January 29, 2012 from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM. SafeAssign is being taken offline for a maintenance upgrade.

During this outage SafeAssign will be unavailable. Students and faculty will not be able to submit papers through SafeAssign during the planned downtime and will receive an error message if they attempt to do so. SafeAssign Originality Reports will not be available to Instructors or Students during the planned downtime, nor will Instructors be able to access SafeAssign Direct Submit.

On Friday August 19, the Blackboard Learning System will be upgraded to Service Pack 6. This upgrade will resolve some known issues as well as add some new features. For more information about the changes in this version, visit the following website:

The SafeAssign service will be unavailable on Saturday August 13, 2011 from 8:00 AM US Eastern (GMT -4) until Saturday August 13, 2011 at 11:59 PM US Eastern (GMT-4).

During this outage SafeAssign will be unavailable. End-users will not be able to submit papers through SafeAssign during the planned downtime and will receive an error message if they attempt to do so.

SafeAssign – Delays In Processing Submitted Papers

SafeAssign is used by IWU in some of our courses on Blackboard. We are currently experiencing delays in SafeAssign reports being generated and are working with our technicians at Blackboard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

Extended time to receive submission results. Typically papers submitted into SafeAssign take a few minutes to process. However, during this peak season there have been multiple occurrences of SafeAssign paper submissions building up in queue. This causes a lag in processing time. While the papers are processed successfully, it can take several minutes up to several days due to the current high volume. Note that any papers that accumulate in the queue are processed and do not need to be re-submitted.

We have expressed our concern to Blackboard over these delays in processing. They are in the process of adding additional server capacity in response to customer concerns.

SafeAssign is used by IWU in some of our courses on Blackboard. The following is excerpted from a bulletin published by Blackboard on Tuesday, October 5.

Extended time to receive submission results. Typically papers submitted into SafeAssign take a few minutes to process. However, during this peak season there have been multiple occurrences of SafeAssign paper submissions building up in queue. This causes a lag in processing time. While the papers are processed successfully, it can take several minutes up to 2 to 3 hours due to the current high volume. Note that any papers that accumulate in the queue are processed and do not need to be re-submitted.

Intermittent errors when submitting papers or accessing submissions. Occasionally when a student attempts to submit a SafeAssign paper or an instructor attempts to access a SafeAssign submission, rather than processing the paper or accessing the paper, the user receives an error message. This error signifies that one of the SafeAssign servers is unresponsive due to load. Our team is automatically notified when this occurs and takes immediate action to restart the services, which typically is accomplished in a matter of minutes. Submissions that result in an error need to be re-submitted.

7/24 - 8 am - The migration to the "advanced platform" environment has begun.
7/24 - 10 pm - The "advanced platform" migration is completed as well as an update to our database. Work is continuing on the actual software upgrade.
7/25 - 8 am - Work on the software upgrade is continuing at this time. We are currently a little ahead of schedule.
7/25 - 10:30 pm - Work on the software upgrade is continuing. We still expect Blackboard to be available prior to 9 am Monday morning.
7/25 - 11 pm - The upgrade has been completed. Quality Assurance testing is now underway by Blackboard technicians.
7/26 - 12:40 am - The upgrade has been completed.

We have been advised by Blackboard that SafeAssign and Blackboard Sync (Facebook/iPhone) will be intermittently unavailable while undergoing maintenance on Saturday, October 10th and Sunday, October 11th, 2009. This maintenance window is to update the hardware and network infrastructure of these products. The expected outcomes of this update are increased capacity for all of these services, improved performance and increased stability.

IWU Data Center Move This Weekend

IWU is moving its Data Center to a new state-of-the-art facility this weekend. Because of this move, most IWU systems will be unavailable beginning Friday evening, July 17, 2009 at 5:30 PM ET until the evening of Saturday, July 18. Student and faculty access to Blackboard WILL NOT BE impacted by this move. However, you will NOT be able to access other IWU websites, such as http://myiwu.indwes.edu, http://family.indwes.edu, http://wildcat.indwes.edu, and others. Also, you may have difficulty contacting the Online Support team for technical assistance during this period.

To reiterate, access to Blackboard will be uninterrupted by this move and will be available at http://indwes.blackboard.com. (Please bookmark this web address for Blackboard if you have not already done so).

Blackboard was down from 1:18 pm from to 5:37 pm, was up until 10:17 pm then down until 11:25 pm. It was up for a short term until 11:33 pm then was down until 12:51 am.
